Teaching Assistant Margate Information
Margate is a seaside town in Kent, located near Canterbury. It was made famous through the Chas and Dave song “Margate” in 1984. However, historically, it was part of the important maritime ports around Dover in the Middle Ages.
For around 250 years, Margate has attracted visitors searching for sea air and entertainment. A major attraction was Dreamland Amusement Park. It first opened in 1920 and reopened in 2015 after a few years of closure.
In the eighties, the area sadly suffered an economic downturn. In 1994 Margate became the subject of a regeneration plan to revitalise the local economy and area. There are now many independent shops, an annual jazz festival and an Arts council-funded art gallery.
There are several primary schools and a mix of grammar and non-selective secondary schools in the area.
