An exciting opportunity has arisen in an outstanding secondary school in Thurrock, Essex for a Senior Science Technician.

This Senior Science Technician role is permanent and would start as soon as the right candidate is available.

The school are currently looking to appoint a Senior Science Technician to support the academic staff in the delivery of the Science curriculum (Biology, Chemistry and Physics).

The main areas of responsibility of the Senior Science Technician will include:

Ensuring all equipment is prepared for lessons
Organisation, preparation, repair, cleaning, transport and collection of all subject related equipment and materials
Assisting in practical lessons and participating in enrichment activities as requested.
Preparation of stock orders.
General department administration
Keeping up to date records and logs of all necessary paperwork
Carrying out risk assessments and safety checks on equipment
Organising the safe and secure disposal of hazardous waste
Organising the efficient storage and record keeping of chemicals, equipment and machinery
Managing the allocation of work between the technician team
Ensuring the quality of the work provided by the other technician(s) is of an appropriate standard, and arranging training, appraisal and performance management
Assisting and advising staff on the preparation and layout in the classrooms for practical exercises
Ensuring the safety, repair and general maintenance of all resources, equipment and tools, and advising on any maintenance or inspection beyond your competence
Welfare and care of the plants and animals in the science area
The successful Senior Science Technician will ideally have: 

Sound knowledge of Management information systems (CMIS Knowledge preferable)
Excellent numeracy, literacy, organisational and communication skills
Experience of working under pressure and meeting deadlines
Experience of working on one’s own initiative and to work within a team
Experience of working flexibly in response to changing situations
Evidence of relevant qualifications & further training
Knowledge of appropriate Health & Safety regulations
