Head of PE – Brentwood, Essex

There is an exciting opportunity at a mixed secondary school in Brentwood, Essex to join the PE team as Head of Department on a maternity cover basis. This will be a superb experience and will provide the successful candidate plenty of development opportunities.

The Head of PE role would suit a teacher looking for a challenge or a change. For example, a PE Teacher who has taught A Level and GCSE PE and is looking for a first ‘Head of Department’ role, or someone who has had a career break and is looking to come back into teaching but was not expecting to be able to do so at Head of PE level.

The school are seeking a qualified teacher to continue the excellent work of the PE department during this maternity leave.

Part of the package could include enrolment with an NPQ programme and a reduced teaching commitment to help with development into middle leadership. It could also include a wider role in school, for example, supporting the pastoral and/or house competition teams.

The Head of PE will be working with a dedicated PE team who are proud of the school’s sporting provision. There is a variety of experience, and both sexes are well represented. So, this Head of PE role could suit someone from either sex and with wide or limited experience. If you get on well with other people and love teaching PE, then you should consider applying for this opportunity.

Where necessary, the successful Head of PE will be supported to develop the skills needed to be a successful middle leader including: curriculum planning, assessment for learning, line management, risk assessments, managing a budget, and health and safety.

The successful Head of PE will be subject to a variety of checks including: eligibility to work in the UK, an enhanced DBS disclosure and full references including one from your most recent employer. Strategy Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
