If you are new to Supply Teaching, it can be a minefield when trying to choose an agency. For the last several years, I have been registered with a number of agencies, but, without a doubt, I would recommend that you choose to work for Strategy Education. Not only are they the most professional people that I have dealt with, but your feedback is important to them. I have always been well supported and have been found as much (or as little!) work as I wanted. To some agencies, you are just another name, whereas Hannah has got to know me as a person. I signed up to the agency whilst at a job fair organised by my university. I wasn't really actively looking for a job when Jack rang me and I was reluctant to write a CV given the amount of work I had to do for university. Jack was great and he informed me that I just needed to send over my details and they created the CV and sent it out to the schools. I am a trainee teacher and was looking for an ECT vacancy. I went and interviewed at 10 schools with no success. Some schools provided me with areas to develop, others said that I did extremely well but they choose another candidate who was stronger, and other schools preferred to recruit experienced teachers. I felt disheartened and was about to give up and stop applying for jobs. My university sent me Strategy Education’s details. I contacted the agency and was lucky to be Tina’s client. Personally, I only had to register online for the agency which was a quick process and sent my CV. Tina has worked hard and has sent my details to different schools instantly. Therefore, Tina has got back to me in the same day I sent her my details. I recommend Strategy Education for everyone who is looking for a job vacancy within education, particularly Tina Louise-Hockey.

I was invited to join the Strategy Agency by Jane Salisbury in the spring of 2010. This was a significant time as I had just retired from a seventeen year permanent job as Head of Drama, but had decided, for both economic and vocational reasons, to stay part- time in teaching. Jane not only found me work as a supply teacher but offered helpful advice and was responsible for guiding me through the transition from permanent to temporary teaching. The staff at Strategy has been invariably positive, cheerfully calling me up for jobs in what are always good schools. When I have had to make tricky decisions due to a conflict of interest between schools- the team has always been 100% on side in enabling me to make the right decision, even if it was not in Strategy’s interest; never putting on undue pressure. The staff are very skilled and friendly: credit goes first to Julie who was supportive in the early days and now to my consultant Emma Sharpe. They have been particularly supportive at moments when I have come unstuck over issues of pupil discipline. They liaise with the schools’ Cover Managers so that I always feel looked after when I go into work as a temporary contractor; this also applies to pay which is promptly dealt with. These friends on the end of the phone have helped me to find my feet in what can be a difficult and sometimes thankless job by working with me as I learn from my mistakes to do it competently. This mentoring approach has enabled me to build up my confidence. I feel, thanks to the agency, I can teach across the curriculum to any age range. The agency has kept faith with me and that in turn encourages me to create a positive learning environment wherever I am sent. The team at Strategy have also been most considerate when I have had to say no to work because of my current responsibility for looking after two frail elderly parents. They give me the autonomy to choose where and when I will work, and that freedom has fostered a good sense of partnership.
